OrMy boss is running the competition like it’s an episode of Survivor Then there’s Carlos who is well very distracting––in a good way But I can’t even think about him like that because fraternizing on the job means instant disualification for the intern involvedAs if that?. This was a pretty cute book There were many things I enjoyed but on the whole I think it was just a bit young for meOn the upside there were some great relationships exhibited here Usually I'm all about the main couple in a YA contemporary give me but i the case of Spies Lies and Allies there were two secondary relationships that I really enjoyed The first was between Laurel and her father It was obvious that Laurel adored her dad even though he could be a bit scary sometimes She bugged and nagged and bugged some until her dad let her work at his company for the summer just so she could spend some time with him Really How sweet What teenage girl do you know who would do the same They also had a lot of sci fi geekdom going on between them Good grief the girl even calls her dad Dad Vader There were some fun moments between them throughout the bookThe other relationship that surprised me in its development was the one between Laurel and Trish Trish was the daughter of Dad Vader's right hand man She was portrayed as a real emo goth angry girl Eventually though Laurel was able to find some common ground with Trish and it was rather nice to seeAs for Laurel's relationship with Carlos I like how there was a gradual building up to friendship before continuing on to something There was plenty of banter and sarcasm between them that kept me gigglingI did have some problems with this book mainly the overuse of the sci fi references and Laurel's constant need to over analyze every Little Thing If you can disregard things like this however you will probably enjoy Spies Lies and Allies

Spies Lies and AlliesSummers are supposed to be fun right Not mine I’ve got a job at my dad’s company which is sponsoring a college scholarship competition I just found out that in addition to my job assisting the competing interns I’m supposed to vote for the winner Totally not what I signed up f. 425 Totally Adorable Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟25I’ve read uite a few books this week that were dark and had very unlikable characters so I needed a pallet cleanser and this was perfect fun filled with lovely characters a positive message romance and friendship nothing makes me smile uite like a good contemporary YA even though I am no longer part of that target audience nor have I been for a very long long time but I am still young at heartLaurel knows the only way she will get to see her workaholic father this summer is to intern at his company The company is hosting a scholarship competition for the interns this summer so Laurel’s father decides that she can assist the interns Laurel and her dad have a good relationship dad is just a workaholic and not around as much as Laurel would like it was lovely to see positive Family relationships Laurel got along well with both her parents and her older sister Laurel also had a fabulous BFF named Lexi so this book checked off two boxes for me when it comes to YA books positive female relationships and good parenting but those weren’t the only boxes this book checked offLaurel was a smart girl with a bit of a nerdy side she was very into science fictionfantasy and there were a lot of Star Wars references in this book I loved how the relationship between all the interns evolved throughout the summer I especially loved the friendship between Laurel and Trisha it was wonderful that two people that appeared so different had so much in common I also adored the romance between Laurel and Carlos Carlos was such a great guy but what I like even was that he was not perfect and he did something towards the very end of this book that was just so sweetSo we have the adorable romance and the beautiful friendships but we also got a bit of a mystery someone was trying to sabotage the company on Twitter so the interns got all Scooby Doo on us and solve the mystery although there was no mystery machineAbsolutely recommend this to people of all ages when you are in the mood for a fun charming Red and if you are a parent wondering if this is appropriate or not I’d say 12 and up this was a pretty clean read thank you so much to the publisher and Net Galley for a copy of this book PS loved all laurels nicknames for people the Manicotti being my favorite But I also enjoyed Chocolate Eyes and Vader
