This is perhaps the greatest book I have read in a very long time I have to say I am a beyond picky reader There are very very few books I would give 5 stars to But this is without a doubt one of themThe story is about a young Lahkian which are a kind of anthropomorphized wolf named Azura learning there is a great danger arising that may bring about the destruction of all of Lahkia Despite still being a child and not yet been transformed by the god Juji into an adult body Azura does her best to find out who the Heir of Darkness is and convince the adults around her of her findingsEverything about this story was fabulous even surprisingly the fact that the book ends in a cliffhanger or sorts but would be better described as a to be continued ending While I definitely want to read and to find out what happens next the ending didn't frustrate me or feel like I was reading half a book The ending was both satisfying and unsatisfying in perfect balance The story told within the book was for the most part concluded yet there is a clear continuation into a new story a new chapter that I sincerely hope to read in the futureThe wordbuilding in the book was wonderful There were no lore dumps or any information being told of rather than seen Everything the reader needed to know was weaved into the story itself as it should be Lahkian hierarchy lore history and all the tiny details like the ability for Lahkians to walk both on all fours and two legs by shifting their shoulder and hip bones were all naturally introduced as the story progressedI loved all of the characters and the roles they played but I think my favorite was Koja He was an adult yet he could relate to Azura and her struggles and helped her as a friend not just someone who was older or no longer a child I'd love to give reasons why I like him but I don't want to write any spoilersAnyone who loves an engaging story well developed and interesting characters and a fabulous fantasy setting will love this book
