This book is hard to like as a woman There is no love The women are most of the time nothing than useful for sex There Is one kind of love in this book and That love is broken Just depressing There are a lot of uotes That are racistisch One of the main character kills a gay man because he looked at himThe World Hugo Claus writes about is the real World but thousand times worse I expected better from Someone who is often called the best Belgian writerHe is just a shame for our country

S impulsively set out for the land of silk and money Las Vegas NevadaWhile Jake and Michel pursue their exploits of satiation under the neon Day Glo of 1970s America their relatives and friends contend with sinister business of their own Two forms of desire go afoul of each other revealing the dark menace lurking behin. A bunch of fat drunken gamblers who hold office in café The Unicorn in Ghent act like friends but have lots of secrets to hide from each other The mutual suspicion sometimes leads to a bar fight All are obsessed with three things women gambling and not being gayThe half breed Michel and the naive Jaak travel to America to go and lose money in Vegas Because of Michel's constant scheming and Jaak's impulsive violence they often get into troubleThe chracterization and dialogue are okay but the whole story is just an enumeration of sadness misery frustration and self delusion At the end it left me with unanswered uestions What is so important about the discovery that it had been little Mark How did little Mark cause Jaak's daughter to go completely bonkers Why did Michel want to go to Vegas in the first place Why introduce so many interesting characters from the bar in the first chapter and then dump them all for the remainder of the book because only two of them go on the trip And finally why have I read this
